Stage 2 delivery of the $250M Griffith Base Hospital Redevelopment, sequencing works around a fully operational hospital campus.
Stage 2 delivers demolition of the former hospital buildings, refurbishment of the Ambulatory Care Hub, new Stage 2A and 2B carparks, and two significant landscape and cultural features — the Garden of Imagination and the Yarning Circle — developed with an Arts Integration Group, followed by reinstatement of the temporary carpark site as landscaped open space.
Delivering the works required managing an unexpected scale of asbestos and contaminated material discovered in the former hospital building, absorbed through a disciplined Extension of Time and commercial claims process while keeping the hospital operating throughout construction. The Stage 2A carpark and direct Emergency Department/Main Entry access opened to the public in March 2026, and the refurbished Ambulatory Care Hub was handed over and became operational in April 2026, fully commissioned within budget. Despite full drawdown of contingency to absorb asbestos-driven delays, forecast final cost remains aligned to the $250M approved budget, with strong safety outcomes maintained across 756,000+ lifetime FTE hours, and strong social outcomes reflected in Aboriginal participation expenditure delivered at over 131% of its committed target.
